Combinatorics Seminar - David Anderson
Title: Rim-hook rules for quantum Schubert calculus via the Satake correspondenceSpeaker: David Anderson (The Ohio State University)Abstract: I will describe some old and new tricks for computing in the quantum cohomology of an ordinary or orthogonal Grassmannian. The main idea is to use a major theorem of modern representation theory to discover combinatorial rules for multiplying polynomials. Although deep mathematics lurks below the surface, the statements and proofs are mostly elementary. (I will also explain what all the words in the title mean.)
