We will discuss how these are equations for geodesics, the corresponding bi-Hamiltonian structures and Lax pair representations. The second lecture is on well posedness of the periodic Cauchy problems of these equations in Sobolev spaces, breakdown of classical solutions and when breakdown occurs.Note: Pre-candidacy students can sign up for this lecture series by registering for one or two credit hours of Math 6193, Call/Class # 20913 (with Prof H.
