Students majoring in math or an actuarial science are assigned an advisor and can find their information below.  Be aware, we do not guarantee any replies to emails or voice-mails received outside of normal business hours (weekdays 8 a.m.- 5 p.m.).

Why See an Academic Advisor?


Academic advisors are assigned to students based on their major. By checking the Student Center on BuckeyeLink, students can find out who is assigned as their academic advisor.

Walk-In Appropriate Topics

  • Arrangements for proficiency Exam Credit -- syllabi provided, suggestions for self-study guides, and the referral slip which students present at the Testing Center.
  • Special course enrollment information -- Eligibility to audit, and permission to skip or concurrently enroll in math courses, when circumstances warrant.
  • Schedule adjustment.
  • Math Minor.
  • Information on Math Placement and testing -- provide information on retesting and re-evaluation of placement levels.

Appointment Appropriate Topics

  • Information on the requirements for the various programs in math -- the math major tracks and minor, the actuarial science major, honors information, and graduation with distinction
  • Major/GE progress checks
  • Graduation
  • Reinstatement
  • Probation/Dismissal
  • Withdrawal/Curriculum Petitions
  • Other math-related questions -- sequences, special courses, course number changes, petitions, requirements for different degrees, and other issues
  • Difficulties and Complaints -- discussion of difficulties with a particular mathematics course or with mathematics in general
  • Prospective student visits

Walk-In Hours:

  • Mondays-Thursdays from 10 a.m.- 12 p.m. and 1 p.m.- 4 p.m. 
  • Fridays from 10 a.m.- 12 p.m. and 1 p.m.- 3 p.m. 
  • Times are subject to change due to university meetings and trainings.
  • Only allows for a 10-15 minute window for the student to see an advisor
