Textbook : The Fundamentals of Higher Mathematics Lecture notes by Neil Falkner, Autumn 2016 edition (Available at Barnes and Noble and SBX on High Street).

Contents: Complete schedule of class.

This course is designed to teach you to understand and write formal mathematical statements, in particular proofs. You will practice this skill while learning introductory combinatorics, number theory and set theory. More description here.

Homeworks: The homework problems will be assigned along the semester. Check Carmen for the homework assignment and due time.

Note: most homework will consist of writing proofs. When writing a written proof, I suggest you write elementary sentences that declare which established facts you are using, or follow a clear and logical derivation from the previous statements. If you are having trouble understanding the material or homework, come to office hrs asap. Homework is due in class on Wednesdays (except for exceptional weeks, when we have a break). No late homework will be accepted. Exams can only be made up because of illness other serious reason (with verifications).
