Geometric Group Theory Seminar - Harrison Bray
Title: The shape of Thurston's master teapot
Speaker: Harrison Bray (University of Michigan)
Abstract: I will discuss recent joint work with Davis, Lindsey, and Wu on one of Thurston's final discoveries, the master teapot (Figures 7.7 and 7.8 of “Entropy in dimension one”). I will introduce the master teapot and its connections to a family of dynamical systems of the unit interval called tent maps, and I will describe some of our strategies to prove several geometric and topological properties of the master teapot.
