We will consider the case when B is the unit circle. The question then becomes: Given a set $A$ in the plane, what can be said of the set of points which are distance 1 away from some point of $A$? We will look at techniques for studying these questions. Math Building 052 (Undergrad Math Study Space) Department of Mathematics math@osu.edu America/New_York public

Title: Sum Sets and Fourier Analysis

Speaker: Krystal Taylor (Ohio State University)

Abstract: A theorem of Steinhaus says that if sets in the plane $A$ and $B$ are "sufficiently large," then $A+B$ has non-empty interior. We will consider the case when B is the unit circle. The question then becomes: Given a set $A$ in the plane, what can be said of the set of points which are distance 1 away from some point of $A$? We will look at techniques for studying these questions.
