Dongbin Xiu, a professor and Ohio Eminent Scholar in the Department of Mathematics, has been appointed interim chair of the department for a one-year term. His research interests include machine learning, uncertainty quantification, big data, scientific computing and numerical analysis. Xiu holds a PhD in applied mathematics from Brown University, as well as degrees from the University of Virginia and Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China.
