Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

Title:  Discrete Groups of Affine Transformations

SpeakerGregory Margulis, Yale University

Abstract:  About 40 years ago L.Auslander conjectured that if a discrete group H acts properly by affine transformations on R^n and R^n/H is compact then H is virtually polycyclic. i will talk about the current status of the Auslander conjecture. Another topic to be covered is affine proper actions without the assumption that the quotient space is compact.
