Title:  On Adding a Column of Digits

Speaker: Persi Diaconis, Stanford University

Abstract:  There is interesting mathematics in considering even simple tasks such as adding a column of digits.  Here, the carries form a determinantal point process, as in random matrix theory.  The associated mathematics involves Koszul algebras and group cohomology.  This is joint work with Alexei Borodin and Jason Fulman.
