Emma Gallo graduated from Ohio State Undergrad in 2025. She graduated with a major in Actuarial Science and minors in Organizational Communication and Business. How did you first become interested in actuarial science?
My high school teacher mentioned it to me when I expressed interest in a career in mathematics.
How did Ohio State's program stand out to you?
The opportunities Ohio State provided allowed me to network with various professionals that exposed me to different actuarial fields.
What do you love most about Ohio State?
I love how Ohio State is such a large university that has hundreds of small communities to join.
What did you think about the faculty in the program?
The faculty wants the best for the students and works hard to expand our opportunities.
How were your interactions with other students in the program?
I have formed great relationships with other students in the program that will last us into our post graduate careers.
What role did OSU's program play in tackling the SOA or CAS exams?
OSU’s courses provided the information needed for my SOA exams in an organized and efficient way.
Tell us about your internship experience.
I interned at Aon in New York City last summer and had a rewarding experience. It proved to me that I was in the right career path and I feel it set me up for success.
In what ways did the program challenge you that you weren't expecting?
The program encouraged me to network and be open to meeting new people.
What has been your biggest takeaway from the program? Was there any class or skill that stood out? How did the content prepare you for your role?
I have taken away that networking and establishing good communication skills are essential to meeting your career goals.
What advice do you have for current and future students? International students?
Be open to challenging yourself and trying new things and get involved in Actuarial Club events!
