## The Department of Mathematics has different procedures for adding waitlisted/closed courses and changing sections in place for all courses.

- Adding Waitlisted and Closed Courses Policy
- Adding Classes After the First Friday Policy
- Changing Sections of Math Courses Policy

Students should periodically check their schedules online as enrollment and classroom changes occur frequently. The Department of Mathematics has instituted a procedure for helping students enroll into classes after the first Friday of the semester.

Adding Waitlisted and Closed Courses

### Waitlisted and Closed Math Courses Numbered 2999 and Below:

**Instructors are not permitted to give permission to add students to closed or waitlisted courses.**

- Students on the waitlist must realize this class is
**full**. - Students must wait to see if a seat opens due to someone dropping the course or more seats are added to the course.
- After the first Friday of the semester the university drops all waitlists. If a student has not be able to add class, or needs to change their section/instructor, they can follow the departmental procedure about adding a course after the first Friday.

**Instructors will not sign the normal university Enrollment Permission Form**. - Permission to enroll over the limit is completely up to the instructor. The instructor has the right to turn students away and the department will respect those individual instructors' decisions.
- After the first Friday of the semester the university drops all waitlists. If a student has not be able to add class, or needs to change their section/instructor, they can follow the departmental procedure about adding a course after the first Friday.

## After the First Friday of the Semester

The university releases all course waiting lists after the first Friday of each semester. Students on the waitlist will __ not__ be notified or enrolled in a class if someone were to drop. Students wanting into a class should be aware of the department's policy below.

How to enroll into a class after the first Friday (including change of section/instructor requests):

- The first day of the second week of the semester, students can go to the Math Course Office, Mathematics Building 113, to enroll in a math class/section of their choice.
- For the Spring 2019 semester, this will happen on
**Monday, January 14, 2019**.

- For the Spring 2019 semester, this will happen on
- Math courses numbered 2999 or lower may add one seat over the limit of each lecture/recitation.
- Math courses numbered 3000 or more will need approval of the Math Adivising Office and the instructor. The student will need to visit the Math Advising Office to receive a Math Department Registration Permission form before meeting with the instructor.
- If a seat is available, it will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis. Waitlist positions hold no bearing since they no longer exist.
- Students are encouraged to arrive early as a line forms before the office opens.
- Students must know the specific class section they wish to enroll. The Math Course Office
help students find sections that will fit in their schedules, students will need to do this before arriving.**will not** - Students will only be enrolled if space exists. If no more space is left, students must wait until the next semester the course is being offered to enroll. No exceptions.

**The Department of Mathematics is not permitted to override the maximum classroom capacity set by fire codes. Students can review the capacity for each classroom on the General Room Assignments.**

## Changing Sections of Math Courses

Students are able to change from one section to another on their own through the first week of the semester. Students should drop the course they are enrolled in and add the new section in Buckeye Link. Students should first confirm that the desired section is open before dropping their current section.

Note: If the lecture is closed and recitation is open, do not drop the current class. Students will not be able to add themselves to the new section if the associated lecture is closed.

After the first week of the semester, students should follow the departmental procedure for changing sections as noted below. Students with extenuating circumstances may request the department for an exception to the following deadlines.
