Abstract:  Connes showed that anomalies of finite cyclic groups can be realized in II_1 factors. Later, Jones showed that anomalies can be realized in II_1 factors for finite groups and Sutherland showed that for discrete groups. We have shown anomalies can be realized in type III factors for certain compact groups.
