Invitations to Mathematics - Eric Katz
Title: Integration on p-adic curves
Speaker: Eric Katz
Abstract: The p-adic numbers are a particular completion of the rational numbers that has applications to number theory. Unlike the reals, they do not have a nice topology, but one can still do geometry over them. In this talk, we will discuss a notion of integration, due to Coleman, on algebraic curves over the p-adic numbers and some of its number-theoretic consequences.
Note: This is part of the Invitations to Mathematics lecture series given each year in Autumn Semester. Pre-candidacy PhD students can sign up for this lecture series by registering for two credit hours of Math 6193 with Professor Nimish Shah.
