Title
Introduction to some recent progress in differential geometry: Willmore Conjecture and Lawson Conjecture.
Speaker
Fangyang Zheng (OSU)
Abstract
In these two talks, I will give a brief introduction to the Willmore Conjecture and Lawson Conjecture. Both were recently solved, by Fernando Marques and Andre Neves on Willmore Conjecture, and by Simon Brendle on the latter. Both conjectures has been around for about 40 years, and their solutions represent some exciting new development in differential geometry. We will discuss the history and background of the problems, and a very brief outline of their approaches.
