Title: Nucleation and Growth Models
Abstract: I will survey what is known about a popular toy-model for nucleation and growth in the 2-dimensional integer lattice. In this model, the initial “seeds” are sparse and random, and nuclei that eventually occupy the full lattice appear spontaneously. We are interested in studying how these nuclei form, and how commonly (or rarely) they appear. As time allows, I’ll discuss some of my own results (with my students and collaborators) for more exotic growth dynamics, multi-stage growth models, and growth in randomly perturbed environments.
