Title: Ergodic Ramsey Theory

Speaker: Sasha Leibman

Abstract: Ramsey theory deals with "indestructible" structures in combinatorial objects. Ergodic theory studies the long time behavior of dynamical systems. Ergodic Ramsey theory is the idea to apply ergodic theory to Ramsey theoretical problems: some combinatorial structures can be "read" from dynamical systems. This approach enriches both theories.

Note: This is part of the Invitations to Mathematics lecture series given each year in Autumn Semester. Pre-candidacy PhD students can sign up for this lecture series by registering for two credit hours of Math 6193 with Professor Nimish Shah.
