Recreational Mathematics Seminar - Playful Pentagons
Title: Playful Pentagons
Speaker: Alissa Crans, Loyola Marymount University
Abstract: The quest to find all convex pentagons that tile the plane dates back to the early 20th century. In 2017 the quest came to an end two years after the discovery of the 15th family. Together we will explore this problem, encountering some of the beautiful solutions first discovered by Marjorie Rice. We will also discuss a question of interest to those wishing to construct these pentagons themselves: which families have examples with integer sides?
