Title
Algebraic differential equations and model theory.
Abstract
Algebraic differential equations are a bridge between algebra and analysis: many special functions of interest, such as Painlevé transcendents, the j invariant, Weierstrass elliptic functions… satisfy algebraic differential equations and can be studied via differential algebra. Model theory brings many tools into this area: differential Galois theory, three notions of dimension, decompositions of differential equations, and a deep classification of their geometric behavior. In this talk, I will give an overview of recent advances in algebraic differential equations, by myself and coauthors, that make crucial use of model theoretic methods.
