Student-Oriented Grading
Title: Student-Oriented Grading -- Rethinking Precalculus at the Universit of Maryland and Beyond
Speaker: Steve Balady (Oberlin College)
Abstract: Calculus I gates STEM majors, but what gates access to Calculus I at the college level? I'll reflect on ten years in the Precalculus classroom at the University of Maryland, and how I and my colleagues -- supported by a SEMINAL grant -- are building metacognition and test-taking strategy into the curriculum of our course. I'll also discuss easy ways to weave mathematical and metacognitive Precalculus content into the Calculus I classroom.
