In-house Math Contest in Modeling

The SIAM Student Chapter has sponsored an in-house version of the COMAP "Math Contest in Modeling" (MCM) competition, thanks to the efforts of MBI postdoc Veronica Ciocanel and help from Rodica Barbu. The event has been unbelievably successful, with 51 students participating in 17 teams. The winners will be recognized in a brief ceremony Monday 12/4 evening, from 6- 7:30 at a SIAM Student Chapter meeting in CH 240.

The MCM is a contest where teams of three undergraduate students get to use their applied and computational math skills to solve real-world problems, and has become internationally famous, with thousands of teams participating each year. The local version serves as a precursor on campus to prepare students to enter the competition.
