In December 2024,  Ovidiu Costin, Rodica Costin, Crichton Ogle, and 3 other collaborators were awarded a 3rd year of funding from the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA) for the project “Development of a new physical, mathematical, and computational framework for the Earth Gravitational Model (EGM)” in the amount of $1,056,432.32, bringing the total for the first three years to $3,052,998.53.

This project focuses on the redesign and reconstruction of the DOD's Earth Gravitational Model (EGM). Additionally, it addresses the fundamental issue - first definitively established by our OSU team - of the divergence of spherical harmonic expansions of the gravitational potential on or near the Earth's surface.
