This year, the SIAM Student Chapter at OSU sponsored four teams (a total of eleven Ohio State undergraduates) to participate in the COMAP's Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) and Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (ICM). The contests challenge teams of up to three students to analyze, model, solve, and present solution reports to an open-ended application problem.
Three of the four teams were sent based on their distinguished performance in the in-house version of the contest, OSU MCM, that we held in the fall of 2023. The other team’s participants consisted of the undergraduate SIAM at OSU chapter officers. John Holmes served as the advisor for all four teams. Each team also participated in a training session that focused on identifying the key attributes of winning solutions.
Three of our teams earned successful participant in the contest this year. These teams submitted solutions to MCM Problem B and ICM Problems E and F. Complete descriptions of these problems can be found here.
The full list OSU teams, in no particular order, include Team A: Nigel Keyser, Ben Thayer, and Maximus Lococo; Team B: David Betz, Zach Smith, and Antonio Mora; Team C: Farah Mohd-Safa'at, Anda Stan, and Elijah Mansu; and Team D: Gowrav Mannem and Jana Abedeljaber.
The local contest and training session that prepared our teams were organized by faculty advisor John Holmes and club officers Jana Abedeljaber, Katelynn Huneycutt, and Gowrav Mannem.
