Jaga Cisse completed the Actuarial Science program at Ohio State in 2010. He then went on to work for Huntington National Bank, Key Bank as Quantitative Analyst/Associate, then Wells Fargo as Senior Market Risk Associate and is now with Bank of America as Quantitative Finance Manager. How did you first become interested in actuarial science?
I always loved mathematics but wanted to be in the world of Finance. Actuarial Science happens to be the great balance. I can’t think of a better program for the career path I have if I was not in the Actuarial Science program. Highly rewarding experience.
How did Ohio State's program stand out to you?
I was perfect as I was able to jump right into Market Risk Management and utilize the derivative market valuation techniques learned from the program. Pricing different types of products and applying risk management strategies right off the bat.
What do you love most about Ohio State?
Education and Sports. OSU has a great football program and I happen to lived in the State of Ohio, Columbus thus the choice could not have been easier.
What did you think about the faculty in the program?
Math and Physical Science was a good faculty. Advisors were fairly accessible and I got to meet the primary program instructor anytime I wanted to at his office.
How were your interactions with other students in the program?
The program was developed around the exams from my experience.
What has been your biggest takeaway from the program? Was there any class or skill that stood out? How did the content prepare you for your role?
Actuarial mathematics series were as realistic as they could be to prepare the students real corporate finance/ Risk Management career.
Can you elaborate on your current role and typical things you encounter on a day to day basis?
I currently work as risk manager focusing on Market and Counterparty regulatory matters.
What advice do you have for current and future students?
Stay the course. It is well worth the effort.
Do you have any advice for international students?
I happen to be from Africa. Once you are in the program you will blend in perfectly. Science has no geographical borders.
