Karl Helmuth graduated from Ohio State Undergrad in 2025. He  graduated with a major in Actuarial Science and a minor in Quantitative Economics. How did you first become interested in actuarial science?

Multiple high school math teachers told me to check out actuarial science. I knew I liked math and statistics, so I decided to give it a shot in college and never turned back!

How did Ohio State's program stand out to you?

Ohio State’s curriculum was extremely well thought out and easy to follow, and systematically prepared me for each of the SOA exams. The practicum course and Actuarial Science Club were also exceptional in terms of offering industry exposure to students.

What did you think about the faculty in the program?

All of the faculty are extremely knowledgeable, supportive, and want to see the students succeed. I certainly would not be in the position I am in today without the help of my professors and advisors.

How were your interactions with other students in the program?

Our program features extremely bright and collaborative students who are a pleasure to learn and work with. They offered an additional level of support outside of the program faculty that was extremely helpful in my time at OSU.
