Title: Tropical Mathematics

Speaker: Angelica Cueto (Ohio State University)

Abstract: In this talk I will give a brief introduction to tropicalization, viewed as a machine transforming algebro-geometric problems into combinatorial ones. We will discuss the arithmetic of the tropical semiring, curves and linear spaces defined on it, and surprising connections to Phylogenetics.
