Title:  Factorization with certain finiteness conditions

Speaker:  Jim Coykendall -- Clemson University

Abstract:  The study of factorization of elements in integral domains has been a rich vein of research since the early 1990s.  In this talk, we will give a gentle overview of some of the basic concepts, examples, and tools of the trade.  Then we will specialize our look at factorization in orders (subrings) of rings of algebraic integers.  We will also consider factorization in Cohen-Kaplansky (CK) domains, which are domains that possess only finitely many irreducibles (up to associates).  In particular, we will show (outline, perhaps) that for any integer n > 2 we can find a CK domain with precisely n nonprime irreducibles if the Goldbach Conjecture is true.
