Title: Arthur-Selberg trace formula and related problems
Speaker: Ali Altuğ (Columbia University)
Abstract: I will report on recent research on the Arthur-Selberg trace formula for $GL(2)$. The aim is to understand the internal structure of the trace formula in a way that would allow to use it directly in non-comparative analytic applications. The original motivation for this comes from Langlands' "Beyond Endoscopy'', which aims to understand the fine structure of the automorphic spectrum of a group. If time permits I will also discuss several problems and other implications of the same circle of ideas.
