Title
The superselection structure of stacked quantum systems

Abstract
Classifying the excitation types in a stack of two infinite lattice layers presents an interesting and mathematically non-trivial problem. I will present the results of collaborative research in which we have demonstrated the conditions under which every anyon in a stacked system is formed from anyons in each layer. In fact, I will argue that these conditions are reasonable and automatic assumptions one makes in these models – therefore this happens in every interesting case. As a result, we design a W*-braided tensor category describing the superselection sectors in the stacked system and see some important corollaries regarding invertible states and the colour code.

This talk is based on joint work with Pieter Naaijkens, Sven Bachmann, and Alan Getz.
