Professor Vitaly Bergelson Awarded the Stefan Banach Medal!

Dr. Bergelson receiving medal

The Polish Academy of Sciences has awarded the 2024 Stefan Banach Medal to Professor Vitaly Bergelson for his outstanding contributions to ergodic theory, Ramsey theory, and combinatorial number theory. The medal, established in 1992 to mark the 100th anniversary of Stefan Banach’s birth, is awarded to individuals with exceptional achievements in the development of mathematical sciences. See https://www.impan.pl/en/activities/awards/the-stefan-banach-medal for more information.

The award ceremony took place on June 24, 2025, at the Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences during the conference “Perspectives on Ergodic Theory and its Interactions.” Prof. Bergelson is the second OSU colleague to receive this honor, the first one being Prof. Michel Talagrand, who was awarded the Banach medal in 2022.

Huge congratulations Vitaly!
