Alum Selected as President-Elect of the SOA
The Department of Mathematics is pleased to congratulate alum Sherry Chan on her recent election as the President-Elect and Vice Chair of the Society of Actuaries. She will become the organization's 79th President and Chair at the 2027 ImpAct Annual Conference.
During her undergraduate studies at Ohio State, Chan double majored in mathematics and actuarial science. She later returned to OSU to complete an Executive MBA from Fisher College of Business.
Throughout her distinguished career, Chan has had the opportunity to hold many high-level actuarial leadership roles. Currently she serves as Managing Director in EY's Insurance and Actuarial Advisory Services practice. Her previous roles include serving as New York City's 5th Chief Actuary, the Chief Actuarial Officer for the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System, and the Chief Actuary for the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio.
Chan has also maintained active involvement with Ohio State. She previously served as Board Member on the Math Advisory Board and the College’s Dean Advisory Board. She recently established the Chan Actuarial Endowment Scholarship for students pursuing actuarial science at OSU.
