Jean Lafont named Fellow of the AMS

Professor Jean Lafont has been selected as a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society (AMS) for 2024.

The AMS Fellows program recognizes mathematicians who "have made outstanding contributions to the creation, exposition, advancement, communication, and utilization of mathematics." Forty mathematical scientists from around the world have been named AMS Fellows for 2024, the program's 12th year.

Professor Lafont's research focuses on the interplay between geometry, topology, and group theory. He received his PhD from the University of Michigan in 2002, and first joined the Ohio State University as Zassenhaus Assistant Professor in 2005. Prof. Lafont also served as the department's chair 2018--2023.
