The Department of Mathematics is pleased to congratulate Luči Krnić, PhD candidate in mathematics, on being named a Graduate Fellow by The Ohio State University's Translational Data Analytics Institute (TDAI). She is one of two students selected as TDAI's inaugural Graduate Fellows.

As a TDAI Graduate Fellow, Krnić will create and lead a research working group aligned with her interests and present her research annually to the TDAI community. The fellowship supports interdisciplinary research and collaboration across data analytics, artificial intelligence, and related fields.

Krnić is co-advised by Professors Matt Kahle and Dustin Mixon, and recently completed her candidacy exam on the theory of superposition in neural networks. Her research explores how representational geometry depends on properties of the underlying data-generating distribution, drawing on frame theory, topological combinatorics, and high-dimensional probability. 

Before beginning her doctoral studies at Ohio State, Krnić completed an MSc in Mathematical Sciences at the University of Oxford, where she specialized in topological data analysis and network science. After her first year in the PhD program, she joined the London-based artificial intelligence startup Unlikely AI as an early employee and technical product manager. According to TDAI, that experience continues to inform her interest in the mathematical foundations of machine learning and how model design decisions affect the people who use these technologies.
