The Establishment of the Wansoo and Michel Talagrand Mathematics Award

We are pleased to announce the establishment of the Wansoo and Michel Talagrand Mathematics Award, a prestigious new recognition for outstanding mathematics students. This award has been made possible through the generous donation of our esteemed former colleague Michel Talagrand, the 2024 Abel Prize winner. Talagrand, renowned for his significant contributions to probability theory and functional analysis, visited our department in September 2024, inspiring faculty and students alike.
The Talagrand Award aims to celebrate and reward students who demonstrate exceptional excellence in mathematics. It will be conferred biennially, with a prize amount ranging from $8,000 to $9,000. This initiative underscores our commitment to fostering mathematical talent and encouraging academic achievement at the highest level.
Details regarding the selection process, eligibility criteria, and application procedures will be announced in due course. We look forward to recognizing and supporting the next generation of brilliant mathematicians through this award.
