Remediation Free Policy
Each academic advisor works with students in their major to determine if remediation free is appropriate for the individual. Qualifying assessment scores must be valid from two years to the day of the start of class.
- The first day of classes in AU25 is 8/26/2025. Standardized test scores from 8/25/2023 and earlier cannot be used for the remediation free policy.
An advisor who works with a student to complete a remediation free waiver may directly post the waiver to OnCourse and is authorized to enroll the student in the appropriate course independent of the math advising office. (In OnCourse, select “Add a Note” for the student, for the Note Reason, select “Remediation Free Waiver”. If the student was test optional, the advisor will also need to attach a screenshot of the student’s qualifying scores, see below.)
Additional OSU Test Optional Policy/Procedures:
The decision was made on 06/10/2022 to permit the use of qualifying ACT/SAT scores for the remediation free policy, even if those students went test optional in the OSU admissions process. For this to be permitted for test optional students, the following procedures should be followed:
The primary advisor should take, or receive from the student, a screenshot of their official qualifying assessment score. It is important that the screenshot contains the following information:
- The student’s name
- The qualifying score
- ACT Mathematics score of 22 or higher
- Math SAT (MTHSN) score of 530 or higher
- Score of 55CLM (College Level Math) on the College Board’s Accuplacer tests
- 263 or higher on the QAS or AAF Accuplacer Next Gen tests
- 26 on the Basic Algebra Test (MBALG) on MapleSoft T.A.
- 46 on ALEKS for Math
- 18 on PlaceU (WebAssign) for Math
- The date the exam was taken
- Must be within last two years to the day of the start of class.
